Rabbi Julie is a warm and wise guide with a talent for innovation while holding fast to the valuable core of tradition. She lives and works in Philadelphia with a home and counseling/consulting practice in Mt. Airy and a congregation in center city. As she develops relationships with each new individual, family or organization, she is a resource for accessing the richness of possibility, meaning and connection.
Julie is the mother of five children and a member of a large kinship tribe. Her understanding of human and organizational development comes both from hands-on parenting and family life and also from extensive professional training. As a licensed Marriage and Family Therapist, she works with many individuals, couples and families in her Counseling with Soul practice and consults with faith-based and social change organizations.
Julie is extensively involved in social justice work for racial and economic justice on a livable planet. She is a longtime member of the Jewish feminist collective B'not Esh and of the affinity group Be the Change. She was a Board Member of ALEPH: Alliance for Jewish Renewal for eight years and founder of ALEPH's Jewish Renewal Life Center which she directed for 12 years. Julie has served the Reconstructing Judaism congregation Leyv Ha-Ir~Heart of the City for over two decades.
Julie has a deep background in Jewish education. Her passion for teaching is reflected in her mentoring of rabbinical students as well as in her own one–room schoolhouse for children, Joyful Judaism House of Study. Rabbi Julie draws on spiritual wisdom and on the latest teachings about organizational excellence to foster lives and communities that are happy, healthy, and effective.
